hi! my name is paris starn, and I make food :) so happy to have you here!
what is ‘playing with food’?
playing with food is a place where i share musings on kitchen creativity, and (mostly sweet) recipes.
getting creative in the kitchen is one of my greatest joys in life. it is so fun playing around with a classic pastry, changing up the aesthetics and/or flavors of it. one of my other greatest joys is repeatedly fine-tuning these baked goods, and sharing them with my friends (aka you!)
i’ve long been looking for a place to share my recipes and substack is perfectly suited because it's easy to read and I can include tons of photos throughout. my recipes often have lots of detail to set you up for a successful final product and having photos to go along with the text will make it easier to follow along.
with this newsletter, you’ll get recipes (~2x a month) that set you up for a successful final product with plenty of details and photos to go along with each detailed step. beyond recipes (1x a month) you’ll get a glimpse into what i’ve been cooking and the inspo behind it all – ranging from produce at the farmers market to a trip to the museum or library.
thank you for being here! every post is free for now, but that may change in the future. to support my work, recipes, and creative process for each step, please consider upgrading your subscription below.
who am i?
i’m paris starn, a lover of the arts (masters in art history), and passionate about getting to be creative and making things with my hands -especially food and clothes.
as a fashion designer (my previous gig), i had a penchant for making pastries a focal point of my mood boards and featuring baked goods in my photo shoots.
a baker ever since i was teensy, i returned to food in 2020 bringing together my loves of art and creativity to make aesthetic foods that are delish to eat and exciting to share with my friends (aka you!)
thanks for joining me here, i am so looking forward to being able to share more with you! for more content in between sends, follow me at @paris.starn. and please drop any q’s or requests in the comments or by replying to this email.
